Naming Body Sensations
The Power of Naming Body Sensations
How often do we go through our day feeling tense, restless, or “off” without truly understanding why?
Learning to recognize and put names to our body sensations—whether it’s tightness in the chest, a pit in the stomach, or tingling in our hands—can be a powerful tool for self-awareness and emotional healing. When we tune into these sensations, we begin to uncover what our body is trying to tell us. Maybe that tension is a sign of underlying stress, or that heaviness could be sadness or fatigue.
Naming what we feel helps us connect our body’s signals to our emotions, creating space to respond with care instead of reacting out of habit.
So next time you notice a shift in your body, pause and get curious:
• “What am I feeling in my body right now?”
• “Where do I feel it?”
• “What might this sensation be trying to tell me?”
With time, this practice of naming helps us understand ourselves on a deeper level and empowers us to meet our needs with compassion.
